The Gasthof Steinbock gained a place in history with the Boss Buebe (famous folklore musicians), after Christian Boss took over the business from the Bohren family in 1938. Even before then the Steinbock, at times also referred to as the Gemsbock, was renowned as a meeting-place and among travellers, primarily also because of a famous local beauty, "the beautiful ship-owner of Lake Brienz", who had managed the business with her husband from 1818. Well-known writers and painters often told of this remarkable and extremely beautiful woman.
After this the Steinbock was run for many years with great dedication and care by Christian Boss jr. and family. On his death his brother Hans bought the business and rebuilt the Steinbock in 1992. Sadly he died an early and unexpected death, and the attractive inn was put on the market.
