Sauze d'Oulx was the proud host of the 2006 Olympic Freestyle skiing events, which included aerial and mogul skiing. The resort is located at one end of the 400km (250m) lift-linked Via Lattea (Milky Way). Sauze d’Oulx is one of the larger, more popular, resorts of the area. While Sauze provides mainly intermediate runs, more advanced skiers can take advantage of an easy connection to Sestriere. There are also black diamond runs at the top of Mount Motta and Mount Sises, and the World Cup Kandahar Slalom and Kandahar Barchetta runs. Sauze has a much better than average sunshine record and above average skiing; 90km of the area’s pistes have artificial snowmaking facilities (with over 1,000 snow cannons). Piero Gros, who won the Giant Slalom world cup in Val d’Isere and Madonna di Campiglio, was raised skiing here. Sauze d’Oulx is a very lively resort. It's popular with snowboarders and skiers alike, and, boasting a large number of bars and restaurants, also has a great apres-ski scene.
